• The Here Now series of watercolors displays time, past and present, in layers of meandering lines, like leaves or fish below the ice on a frozen pond, each layer partially obscuring the ones below. 

    My lines are inspired by aspects of writing, including written words, stages of narrative and the beginning-middle-end structure. Each line is a phase of the painting. My challenge is to bring the painting to a conclusion before the lines jumble into chaos. 

    I never know when the ending will occur. When it does, there’s a tension between the accumulated history and the moment of completion, which is the painting’s perpetual “present.”
