• In 2017, I worked on 7x10 inch watercolors that I had difficulty completing. Themes of "weaves" and "breaths" from earlier watercolors were still in play, but I was looking for something else. By digging into the painting that became In Conclusion (2017), I discovered that I could complete a watercolor with a decisive "spill" pattern made by linking drops or pools of paint with the brush handle. The pattern belonged with the marks that came before it in that painting but also provided a summation. I used this notion of “conclusion“ and the spill pattern to finish other paintings that became part of this series.
